Alfredo Barsuglia
b. 1980
Alfredo Barsuglia, born in Graz in 1980, lives and works in Vienna. From 1999 to 2004 he studied at the Academy of Fine Arts, the University of Applied Arts and the University of Vienna, and at the Akademia Sztuk Pięknych in Kraków. Barsuglia works across painting, drawing, objects, video, performance and interventions in public space; his work addresses economy, ecology, our relationship with nature and the function of art. His awards include the Msgr. Otto Mauer Prize (2019), the Austrian State Grant for Fine Arts (2017), the City of Vienna Art Promotion Prize (2015) and the Theodor Körner Prize (2013). He has had solo exhibitions at venues including the Bank Austria Kunstforum Vienna, the MAK Vienna, the MAK Center for Art and Architecture in Los Angeles and the Grazer Kunstverein. His works are held by institutions including the Leopold Museum, the MAK, the Wien Museum and the Lentos Kunstmuseum.
