Xenia Hausner

b. 1951

Xenia Hausner was born in Vienna in 1951; her father was the painter Rudolf Hausner. From 1972 to 1976 she studied stage design at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna and at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in London. Until 1992 she designed sets for theatre, opera and film, including for the Burgtheater, the Salzburg Festival, the Royal Opera House Covent Garden in London and the Théâtre Royal de la Monnaie in Brussels. Since 1992 she has devoted herself to the visual arts, above all to painting, alongside photography, mixed media and sculpture. Solo exhibitions have been held at the Albertina in Vienna, the Shanghai Art Museum, the Today Art Museum in Beijing and the Museum Franz Gertsch in Burgdorf, among others. In 2000 she received the Ernst Barlach Prize. Her work is held in collections including the Albertina, the Belvedere and the Wien Museum. Xenia Hausner lives and works in Berlin and Vienna.
